"Approximation of national legislation of Ukraine in the fields of state supervision (control) of GMOs in open systems, protection of plant variety rights, and seed and seedling production in line with EU norms and standards"

Project Description
The project combines three different areas:
- Genetically modified organisms (GMOs);
- Protection of plant variety rights;
- Seed and seedling certification.
The project activities are split into three main components:
- Approximation of Ukrainian legislation;
- Organizational and operational review of Beneficiary;
- Organizational and operational review of phytosanitary laboratories.
The expected results of the action are legislation gap analysis with assessment report, transposed priority legal acts, reviews of institution's procedures, strategies and plans, standard operational procedures, trainings for officials and study visits.
Specific Objective
Approximation of national legislation in line with EU Directives and Regulations with regard to the state supervision (control) in the sphere of GMOs in open systems, protection of plant variety rights, and seed and seedling production and improvement of relevant state supervision (control) systems according to EU standards.
Expected Results
The specific results by each component are:
1) 10 gap analysis with one common assessment report, priority list and approximation plan, transposed documents, review for capacity building, monitoring program, info materials;
2) functional review, operational plan upgrades, communication strategy, training for 100 staff members, 10 study visits;
3) functional review, strategy with action plan for accreditation, equipment list, SOPs, training for 90 staff members.
