Gender equality is at the heart of the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative. It is vital to the individual lives of women as well as men, and essential for long-term democratic development. In its cooperation with Ukraine, the EU is driving real change by strengthening women in business, providing opportunities for quality education and promoting a fair society.

A FAIR SOCIETY

EU4Gender Equality

This regional programme, funded by the European Union across the Eastern Partnership, seeks to strengthen equal rights and opportunities for women and men by shifting social perceptions around gender roles, tackling gender stereotypes and increasing men’s participation in childcare and other domestic responsibilities.

In Ukraine, the project ran a campaign, Fight like a Girl, with 15 videos tackling stereotypes and highlighting different forms of gender-based violence and cybercrimes affecting women and girls.

“I hope this project will reach many women and girls, and will empower them to change their lives.” TV host Oleksandra Gontar was one of the influencers mobilised for Fight like a Girl.

Battling domestic violence

The EU Advisory Mission (EUAM) has launched a training for Ukrainian police on combating domestic violence. The training combines theory around stereotypes and legislation, with practical scenario-based exercises, starting from a call to the 102 emergency line, communication with an abuser, all the way to evidence collection and a safety plan for victims.
