#WeStandWithBelarus: heads of EU diplomatic missions meet with family members of political prisoners

On 16 June, the heads of the EU diplomatic missions met in Minsk with the family members of political prisoners to express their fullest solidarity and deep empathy.

According to a joint statement, published on the European Union in Belarus Facebook page, more than 490 persons in Belarus are considered now to be political prisoners: “They are behind the bars just for their public position and political views.”

We would like to encourage all the families of Belarusian political prisoners not to lose hope and to let them know that the EU stands with them,” say the diplomats. We are all impressed by the courage and dignity of the unlawfully detained and we share their expectations that freedom and justice will triumph in Belarus.

Other EU solidarity actions to support the Belarusian people can be found in social media under the tag #WeStandWithBelarus.
