‘We will not let President Putin tear down Europe’s security architecture’ – Ursula von der Leyen warns of new sanctions

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced this morning that the EU would later today present a new package of massive, targeted sanctions.

Adding to this information in another tweet, von der Leyen said that “the sanctions will target strategic sectors of Russia’s economy. This is designed to take a heavy toll on the Kremlin’s ability to finance war.”

“Russian forces invaded Ukraine, a free and sovereign country. We condemn this barbaric attack, and the cynical arguments used to justify it,” said the President.

We will not let President Putin tear down Europe’s security architecture. He should not underestimate the resolve and strength of our democracies. Ukraine will prevail,” von der Leyen wrote on Twitter.
