Ukraine: European Investment Bank disburses first €500 million from €1.59 billion support package

On 14 September, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the EU bank, disbursed the first tranches of the €1.59 billion package of the Ukraine Solidarity Urgent Response, supported by an EU guarantee.

The first disbursement of €500 million in immediate assistance to Ukraine has arrived to meet the country’s most urgent needs. This will help the Ukrainian government to cover priority short-term financing needs and ensure urgent repairs of damaged roads, bridges and railway infrastructure. Support will also be provided to strategic state-owned companies – Ukravtodor, the Ukrainian Highways Agency, and the Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia.

The €1.59 billion EIB package consists of €1.05 billion of immediate assistance, of which half a billion was fully disbursed on 14 September, and €540 million for resuming EIB-financed projects.

The EIB provided Ukraine with its first emergency support package of €668 million within a month of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
