Tourism: EU supports regional developments projects in Kakheti
On 1-2 December, a joint delegation of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure (MRDI) and the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia travelled to Kakheti.
The objective of the visit was to highlight several project sites selected within the Pilot Integrated Territorial Development Programme (PiRDP). Its budget is the GEL 220 million, GEL 186 million of which comes from EU funding.
The project renovated tourist centres and trails, repaired museums, such as the Ilya Chavchavadze Museum in Kvareli, and landscaped parks.
PiRDP is based on a bottom-up, decentralised approach with the appraisal and selection for funding carried out by Regional Consultative Councils.
In 2022, the programme will provide GEL 100 million for new projects.
