Moldovan public administrators trained on gender equality with EU support

Public administration is at the heart of government. When public administration is gender-responsive, everyone benefits – policies and programmes meet the needs of both men and women, break down barriers and bring equal opportunities to the fore.

This is why the EU4Gender Equality Reform Helpdesk is helping Moldova to integrate the principles of gender equality in public administration nationwide. Moldovan civil servants are better placed to advance gender equality thanks to an innovative training course on ‘Gender Equality in Public Administration’ (27–30 September 2022), organised by the Reform Helpdesk.

The training deepened the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies of 43 participants (41 women and 2 men) from Moldova’s Ministry of Finance and Regional Treasuries. Participants welcomed the course as a true ‘eye-opener’.

“Before this training, there was a lack of training specifically aimed at discussing the topic of gender/equal opportunities in the field of human resources,” explained one participant, Aliona Moisei of the Ministry of Finance. “[With this training] we had the opportunity to learn more about the national normative and legislative framework in the field of gender equality, as well as examples from international experience.”

Participants learned how to identify, prevent, and combat discrimination in the world of work, as well as how to integrate gender equality in public policies. With their improved understanding of gender analysis tools, they are eager to improve the lives of all beneficiaries of public services.

“After the training, I found that […] we are all invested with the responsibility of applying the integrated approach to gender equality,” pointed out Viorica Secu of the Chisinau Regional Treasury.

The EU4GenderEquality: Reform Helpdesk project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Niras, aims to ensure effective and equal results for women and men across Eastern Partnership countries – including Moldova – by expanding the use of gender analysis in decision-making and reforms. This training was delivered by Angela David and Andrei Petroia of the Reform Helpdesk.
