Moldova: windmill in Gaidar village restored with EU support

A unique windmill in the Gaidar village, in Moldova, was restored as a part of the EU Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by UNDP.

Fully made of wood, the Gaidar windmill was built at the end of the 19th century. There are only four such windmills in Moldova, and only the one in Gaidar is still in comparatively good shape, and was operational until 2005.

As of now, the mill is operational and open for visitors. Guests of the IX Carpet Festival, organised in the Gaidar village, were the first to see the tourist attraction. Hundreds of people from different parts of the country attended the event.
