Moldova: Over 1,000 young people attend Youth Festival in Ungheni

Over 1,000 young people participated in the Youth Festival in Ungheni, organised in the context of the 2022 European Year of Youth, on the National Youth Day, which is traditionally celebrated on the second Sunday of November.

Young people took part in a varied programme that encouraged them to lead a healthy lifestyle, be creative and take an active part in the social, cultural, sporting and economic life of the Ungheni municipal district.

Children and teenagers presented their work in the drawing exhibition “Youth Ambassadors of Change” and the photo exhibition “Youth in Action”. The centrepiece of the festival was the Youth 2022 marathon, consisting of 5.5 km and 10 km races. This running event has a long 24-year history and attracts hundreds of sports fans every year.

The Festival was organised by the Ungheni City Hall and the ‘EU4Moldova: Focal Regions’ programme, financed by the EU and implemented by UNICEF and UNDP. The Young European Ambassadors also took active part in the event.

“It is essential for young people to be civically involved, to know and benefit from all the opportunities available to them to develop personally, and also to contribute to the development of the community,” said Valeria Hanganu, a Young European Ambassador from Ungheni.
