Moldova: EU to support purchase of high-capacity linear accelerator for Chisinau Oncology Hospital

A second high-capacity linear accelerator will be purchased for the Chisinau Oncology Hospital, Moldova, with the support of the European Union.

To date, hundreds of people have already been successfully treated at this institution thanks to the linear accelerator commissioned in February this year. Every day, about 70 people receive life saving treatment, mainly of brain, throat and breast tumours.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Health and cited by the EU Delegation to Moldova, there are about 60,000 cancer patients in Moldova, with more than 8,000 cases of new malignant tumours. A second accelerator would increase the availability as well as the quality of radiotherapy, saving many more lives.
