Moldova: EIB to provide €498,000 to develop plans for two regional hospitals

On 28 September, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Moldovan Ministry of Health signed a €498,000 grant agreement.

The funds will be used to establish a unit within the Ministry that will prepare the plan and documents for the planned construction of two new regional hospitals in Cahul and Balti.

The new regional hospital in Cahul will expand the range of medical services available locally to more than 120,000 people living in southern Moldova, including treatment for cancer patients, such as chemotherapy.

“The expansion of healthcare facilities will make the country more resilient to current and future threats and crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine,” said EIB Vice President Teresa Cervinska, who is responsible for the Bank’s operations in Moldova.
