Michel: NATO summit in Madrid reaffirms our very firm and concrete support for Ukraine

European Council President Charles Michel said that the NATO summit in Madrid, Spain, was important because it provided “an occasion to reaffirm our very firm and concrete support for Ukraine”.

The summit was held from 28-30 June. The main event was the admission of Sweden and Finland to membership of the North Atlantic Alliance. Both countries applied to join NATO after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

EU and NATO stand together today in Madrid, united in support to Ukraine and its people and in condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine, wrote Michel on Twitter.

He added that the EU-NATO strategic partnership is stronger and more relevant than ever as the EU concretely strengthens its own defence capabilities.
