Join European Heritage Days in Moldova from 13 to 25 September

This year, the Republic of Moldova celebrates European Heritage Days from 13 to 25 September. The celebrations are held under the slogan ‘Sustainable Heritage’ and aim to encourage local and cultural tourism.

During these days, museums and exhibition halls in all localities will open their doors to visitors, and the entrance will be free.

The National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History in Chisinau will reopen the ‘NATURA’ hall after a two-year renovation. Visitors can also admire the terracotta floor of the museum, made in 1903-1905.

The ‘Mihail Kogălniceanu’ National Museum of Literature is now open to the public. For the first time in the last 30 years, rare books from the beginning of the 17th century will be exhibited. The oldest of them dates back to 1619.

In the Ialoveni region, the archaeological excavations of Costești-Gîrlea will be opened to the public. The 14th century ruins found here are an important artefact of Moldova’s cultural heritage.

European Heritage Days are held annually in the 50 European countries that have acceded to the European Cultural Convention (1954). The idea for the project originated in France in 1984 under the name ‘Open Day for Historic Monuments’.
