From castles to Nobel laureates: check online map highlighting historical and cultural ties between Ukraine and Europe

An EU-supported project has created a grand map of cultural and historical connections between Ukraine and Europe. The online map on Platfor.ma features almost a hundred stories about how all regions of Ukraine were actively integrated into European cultural, scientific, and political life.

The project was implemented by Platfor.ma, the agency for social change, together with the NGO ‘Internews-Ukraine’ as a part of the “Regional information activity of the Delegation of the EU to Ukraine’ project, financed by the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.

“Ukraine is the largest country in Europe, with the geographical centre of the continent lying within our borders,” says the dedicated page on Platfor.ma. “Moreover, the country shares a rich and long cultural and historical background with other countries on the continent. Platfor.ma and Internews Ukraine have collected examples of such links across different spheres from every region of Ukraine, spanning ancient castles and traditional arts to Nobel laureates and heroes who saved millions of people, to finally confirm that Ukraine is Europe.”
