Farmers in Armenia get equipment from EU project

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has supplied small-scale agricultural equipment to farmers in 25 communities in Armenia with the financial support of the EU.

Assistance was provided under the EU-LEAD4Lori and Tavush Regions project in the territories of two Local Action Groups (LAGs) in the Tavush region, Ijevan and Berd.

The equipment donated included two-wheel tractors and cultivators, lawn rotary mowers, electric backpack sprayers, a diesel generator and a welding machine.

“At the end of 2021, the LEAD project commissioned a study to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the food value chains in Tavush and Lori regions,” said Gayane Nasoyan, Assistant FAO Representative in Armenia. “The study revealed that the border restrictions, supply chain disruptions, and widespread health issues exacerbated the existing gaps and challenges in the value chains, particularly for smallholder farmers. Those issues made it necessary to take measures to increase the resistance of smallholder farmers.”

Local community members who attended the ceremony expressed great appreciation for the support, saying that the equipment was vital for their families.
