EUAM: Finnish Customs provides training for Ukrainian colleagues

The EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine (EUAM) facilitated an online training session last week for officers of the State Customs Service of Ukraine by Finnish colleagues.

Up to 60 Ukrainian officers learned best practices from Finnish Customs on vehicle inspection methodology. They learned more about the tools and techniques used to detect contraband, identify terrorist resources in transit and deter their movement, as well as thoroughly inspect all potentially concealed areas in the vehicle.

Another topic of the event was the use of x-ray machines: how to interpret images taken during an inspection and apply safety rules when using x-ray equipment.

This training is particularly important for Ukrainian customs officers in times of war, as the hostile environment caused by the war against Ukraine provides more opportunities for smugglers, drug dealers and proliferation of arms.
