EU to provide Moldova €2 million to finance energy efficiency measures in Balti

The European Union and Team Europe, including the EBRD, Sweden, Germany and Finland, will support the municipality of Balti in Moldova. Under an agreement signed on 5 October, an additional grant of €2 million will be provided to finance energy efficiency measures in Moldova’s second largest city.

The money will be used to co-finance the construction of horizontal networks in over 296 buildings in Balti municipality, as well as the purchase and installation of autonomous boilers in 166 houses. Moreover, the project will construct heat accumulators and heat distribution systems, modernise water treatment facilities to ensure reliable and automated operation, and implement digitalisation to promptly detect heat leaks or equipment malfunctions.

The €2 million grant is part of a total €50 million EU project that will benefit 37,000 Balti residents, save up to 117,000 megawatt hours of energy per year, save 11,000 cubic metres of water, and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 23,000 tonnes per year.
