EU to allocate over €66 million for cross-border cooperation with Ukraine

The EU will allocate more than €66 million for cross-border cooperation with Ukraine under the European Commission’s Interreg NEXT Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine cross-border cooperation programme. The programme covers the period 2021-2027.

The three EU Member States (Hungary, Slovakia and Romania) and Ukraine will work together to ensure equal access to healthcare and improve the sustainability of their healthcare systems. They will also cooperate on nature conservation, green infrastructure development and sustainable tourism. Besides, the programme will also support sustainable solutions to climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention.

The programme will also help Ukraine to bring public administration standards into line with those of the EU Member States and will promote legal and administrative cooperation to resolve common obstacles in the border regions, while fostering cooperation between citizens, civil society, and institutions.

For the 2021-2027 period, the EU will grant almost €600 million to five Interreg programmes, to support cross-border and transnational cooperation activities between Member States and Ukraine.
