EU-supported training on gender mainstreaming for Moldova’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection

Members of the Gender Coordinating Group within Moldova’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection honed their capacities on gender mainstreaming, gender impact assessments and gender-responsive budgeting through a training organized by the EU-funded EU4Gender Equality Reform Helpdesk (Chișinău, 19–22 September 2023).

This training marks another important step supporting a gender-responsive approach to state policies in the Republic of Moldova. Fifteen staff members of the ministry (12 women and three men) welcomed the training for strengthening their knowledge, practical skills and professional competencies on applying gender mainstreaming in strategic and operational activities. Stronger skills within the ministry’s Gender Coordinating Group will boost public management grounded on the principles of gender equality.

Participants welcomed new insights on gender analysis, which many had not been trained on before, and on the importance of integrating gender equality into public management. They noted that the ministry’s responsibilities should include promoting compliance with international and national legislation on non-discrimination and equal opportunities for men and women.

The sessions on gender-sensitive research and gender-based analysis were delivered by the EU4Gender Equality Reform Helpdesk’s national experts – Senior Non-Key Expert Andrei Petroia and Junior Non-Key Expert Angela David.

This training is part of ongoing support for Moldova by the EU4GenderEquality Reform Helpdesk project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Niras. The Reform Helpdesk aims to ensure effective and equal results for women and men across Eastern Partnership countries – including Moldova – by expanding the use of gender analysis in decision-making and reforms. The Reform Helpdesk will continue supporting the Government of the Republic of Moldova on its path towards greater gender equality and democracy until the project is completed at the end of 2023.
