EU high official Lawrence Meredith visits Moldova

The Director for the EU’s Eastern Neighbourhood and Institution Building at the European Commission, Lawrence Meredith, is on a two-day official visit to Chisinau on 6-7 October, discussing the EU economic and investment plan for Moldova with representatives of key Moldovan ministries, the head of the European Investment Bank’s office and a representative of the International Monetary Fund.

On Thursday, Lawrence Meredith opened the LEADER conference, an EU-supported community development programme that has become a national state-funded programme in Moldova. He also met Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) to discuss the young people’s contribution to Moldova’s European future, especially after the country gained EU candidate status, as well as environmental transition, digitalisation and opportunities for education.

Lawrence Meredith also visited the largest info-centre in Chisinau, the Europe Café, for the opening of the photo exhibition ‘Team Europe: Two Years of Solidarity’. The pictures highlight the most significant examples of the EU’s assistance to Moldova.
