EU delivers water filter systems to municipalities in eastern Ukraine

With assistance from the European Union, 13 municipalities in the Sumy, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions have received filters for the purification of fresh water from rivers and lakes, as well as wells and water pipes.

In total, 23 partner municipalities will receive 50 mobile filter systems with a capacity of up to 5 cubic meters per day, together with containers for the filtered drinking water.

This support is especially important now that Russia is deliberately destroying Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, including in the water sector.

This initiative will also support local communities in hosting IDPs and providing them with the necessary services.

This assistance is carried out within the ‘EU4ResilientRegions – Special Assistance Programme Ukraine’ project, co-financed by the European Union together with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
