On 26 November, the European Commissioner for Environment, Virginijus Sinkevičius, and the Prime Minister of Moldova, Natalia Gavrilita, signed an agreement for Moldova to join the EU Environment and Climate Policy Programme LIFE.
The programme will support Moldovan initiatives and projects related to research and application of innovative practices, support a climate resilient circular economy and promote environmental protection.
The total budget of the LIFE programme for 2021-2027 is €5.43 billion. It has secured co-financing for over 5,500 projects within and outside the EU.
Sinkevičius and Gavrilita also took part in Moldova’s national greening campaign – they planted trees in the capital’s Botanical Garden Park.
Commissioner Sinkevičius also met with Young European Ambassadors to discuss the environmental transition and EU energy efficiency initiatives.
