EBRD and EIB stand by Ukraine

The Heads of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, and the European Investment Bank (EIB), Werner Hoyer, have expressed their support for Ukraine following the Russian attack on the country.

Odile Renaud-Basso condemned the Russian-led invasion of Ukrainian territory: “This morning I have told the Ukrainian authorities that they have the Bank’s unwavering support.

My thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, with our business partners in the country, and, of course, the many staff we employ there.”

“I would like to express our horror at the loss of life and suffering caused by Russia’s military aggression towards Ukraine, an act which we utterly deplore,” said Werner Hoyer. “The EU Bank – the whole EIB Group – stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, and our commitment to supporting an independent Ukraine and improving the lives of its people remains steadfast.”

He added that the EU stands ready to urgently mobilise further financial support to the country as part of a coordinated EU and international response to this unprecedented crisis.
