Moldova: five more of Ion Creanga’s fairy tales come to life with EU and UNDP support

Following the pilot animation of five stories by the famous Moldovan and Romanian writer and schoolteacher Ion Creanga (1839 – 1889), the Moldova animation  studio ‘Kreyon’ has animated another five of his fairy tales.

Creanga’s characters have come to life in a new digital format, thanks to the ‘Fairytales of Ion Creanga in 2D’ project, financed by the EU within the EU ‘Confidence Building Measures’ program, implemented by the UNDP.

The stories ‘Dafin şi Vestra’, ‘The Shepherd’s Daughter’, ‘Cremene the Mighty, ‘Busuioc Fat-Frumos and Ileana-Cosanzeana Sister of the Sun’, ‘The Mighty from the nowhere World’ will be broadcast on Moldova 1 and Bendery TV, on the left bank of the Nistru river. Then they will be available on the ‘Kreyon Kids’ YouTube channel .

“The greatest challenge faced by the illustrators was when they had to craft sketches of the Dragons, the Old Witch or the Devils and the servants of the Dragon,” said Ion Savin, from the Kreyon Studio. “We decided to give them an anthropomorphic shape in our animations, so that they have human habits and behave like people. This way the images will be easier for children to understand.”

To make these stories more popular, the animations are offered in Romanian, Russian and English.
