Azerbaijan: focus on gender equality and efforts to combat gender-based violence

On 17 February 2021, the first meeting of the Project Board of the EU-funded action on ‘Raising awareness of the Istanbul Convention and other gender equality standards in Azerbaijan’ took place online.

The Project Board includes the related Azerbaijani institutions and the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan and aims to guide the implementation of the action’s activities to make sure they respond to the needs of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the project team presented an update on project activities and pointed to special efforts in raising awareness though social media. After the presentation, partners exchanged ideas on how the project could further contribute to efforts to prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence in Azerbaijan.

Raising awareness of the Istanbul Convention and other gender equality standards in Azerbaijan” is a joint European Union and Council of Europe action currently implemented within the EU-funded Partnership for Good Governance in the Eastern Partnership countries. Among other objectives, the joint action seeks to support the Azerbaijani authorities to join the Istanbul Convention.
