Azerbaijan: EU-WHO project presents guidelines on COVID-19 prevention in healthcare facilities

An online meeting on the prevention of COVID-19 infections in health facilities was held in Azerbaijan last week. The event was organised within the framework of the European Union-funded ‘Solidarity for Health’ initiative.

The meeting was attended by WHO experts and representatives of the Azerbaijani health system. They discussed innovations in relevant WHO guidelines, and infection prevention and control (IPC) in health facilities in case of new outbreaks of COVID-19. WHO expert Jennifer Collins said that IPC planning should be a priority and presented a set of steps to be taken in case of a rise in COVID-19 cases in health facilities.

The WHO guidance provides an outline of the steps to be taken within 2-4 weeks of identifying an outbreak or resurgence of cases, as well as links to existing WHO resources to help manage each step.
