Azerbaijan: EU and UNDP to help vegetable and fruit growers in the Lankaran Economic Region

On 30 November, the European Union, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan signed a new project worth €5 million under the ‘EU for Lankaran’ programme to help develop a modern and competitive fruit and vegetable sector in the Lankaran Economic Region.

The four-year project for ‘Promoting Competitiveness, Collaboration, and Modernisation in the Fruit and Vegetable Sector in Lankaran Region’ aims to build small-medium scale farmers’ networks and introduce innovation.

“Lankaran has an undisputed potential in the production of high-value horticultural produce,” said the EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko. This programme will focus on enhancing the competitiveness and value-added of the fruit and vegetable sector of the region in a sustainable manner and will continue to benefit many farmers and producers.

A total of 3,000 people are expected to benefit from the project.
