Opinion Survey 2019: Ukraine

The EU NEIGHBOURS east project, in collaboration with ACT LLC, carries out opinion polls in the six EU’s Eastern partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine) on an annual basis.

According to the 2019 survey:

  • 56% of Ukrainians have a positive image of the EU and 63% Ukrainians believe relations with the European Union are good (up 7% and 1% respectively compared to 2018).
  • More than 70% of Ukrainians recognise the EU’s fundamental values and identify with the values of ‘peace, security and stability’, ‘human rights’, ‘economic prosperity’, ‘rule of law’ and ‘individual freedoms’.
  • 63% of people in Ukraine trust the European Union and only 22% trust the EEU (-7% from 2018 and the lowest level in the EaP region).
  • 57% of Ukrainians are aware of the EU’s financial support, and 46% of them believe that the support is effective (up from 43% last year).

The purpose of the annual surveys is to investigate and understand better the opinion and the level of awareness that the citizens of the EU’s Eastern partner countries have about the European Union and the EU cooperation with their country.
