Ukraine: EU supports equal opportunities in the civil service

The EU4GenderEquality Reform Helpdesk has supported Ukraine’s National Agency for Civil Service in organising a seminar on equal opportunities. More than 100 participants contributed to the seminar, which took place in Kyiv on 23 September.

Women make up more than 70% of the staff but occupy only 27% of senior positions in the civil service in Ukraine. The event aimed to change this by looking at ways of increasing women’s participation at all levels of decision-making to reach the SDG indicator of at least 30% women in senior civil service positions.

The seminar brought together representatives from government authorities, local self-government bodies, higher education institutions and civil society institutions.

The ‘EU4GenderEquality: Reform Helpdesk’ programme provides gender analysis and expert advice on gender equality in a wide range of areas such as labour market policies, economic development, public administration, justice reforms, health care and social services, as well as education and family policies.
