New EU-funded call with focus on tackling the threat of antibiotic resistance – available for Eastern partner countries

On January 14, the Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR) launched a call focused on tackling the rising threat of antibiotic resistance (AMR). This competition, also open to the Eastern Partnership countries, is funded by the European Commission and includes 30 funding organisations from 21 JPIAMR member countries, including Moldova. The total estimated call budget is 24.9 million.

JPIAMR is a global collaborative platform, engaging 28 member nations to curb antimicrobial (antibiotic) resistance (AMR) with a One Health approach. The European One Health Action Plan against AMR encourages the EU and its Member States to deliver innovative, effective and sustainable responses to AMR, especially to reduce the emergence and spread of AMR inside and outside the EU.

The call aims to support collaboration between research partners from different countries and different fields of expertise to promote research on antibiotic resistance as the clinical effectiveness of existing antibiotics is declining. The research proposals must focus on at least two out of the three One Health settings: Human Health, Animal Health and Environment.

In the framework of this call, Moldova is in the list of participating countries, meaning a partner from Moldova is eligible for funding. Partners from Moldova should check the eligibility requirements with the Moldovan National Agency for Research and Development ANCD. JPIAMR also encourages participants from low and middle income countries, such as Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia and Ukraine, who can be funded by a specific funding organisation, the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) in Denmark. Partners from these countries should check eligibility requirements with this organisation before submitting a proposal.

A live webinar for applicants presenting the call and the partner search tool will be held on 28 January 2021. The representatives from funders participating in the call will be available to answer questions live.

The deadline for pre-proposals is 16 March, 2021, 12:00 (CET).
