Moldova starts 2022 with important amendments to electricity market rules

The entry into force of Moldova’s wholesale electricity market rules, developed with the support of the EU4Energy Governance project, has been postponed until 1 April 2022. This will allow for a three-month testing phase by all market participants.

The market rules were adopted by the National Agency for Energy Regulation of the Republic of Moldova (ANRE) in August 2020. They contain procedures for the procurement of electricity on forward, day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets, as well as rules on ancillary services procurement and imbalance settlement. The new rules also contain an improved procedure for procurement of electricity and rules for balancing of market participants located on the left bank of the Dniester River.

To ensure full and proper implementation of the market rules on 1 April 2022, all market participants are obliged to apply the imbalance settlement rules from 1 January 2022, albeit without commercial consequences for the first three months.
