Moldova joins Horizon Europe research and innovation programme

The leaders of the European Union and its Member States finalised the association of the Republic of Moldova to Horizon Europe, the EU research and innovation programme (2021-2027) in Brussels, on 27 October. Moldovan researchers and innovators can now participate in the €95.5 billion programme under the same conditions as entities from EU Member States.

Moldova was the first Eastern Partnership country to become associated with Horizon 2020 back in July 2014.

“Under Horizon 2020 Moldovan participants received €7.4 million in areas such as researcher mobility, health, food, and the environment,” said theCommissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel.

Success stories from Moldova in research and innovation are visible in research infrastructures, health, and ICT domains.

Some examples of successful projects are:

  • GÉANT, creating important research networks to promote scientific cooperation and access.
  • RED-Alert project, an online content monitoring system in the fight against terrorism.
  • Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH), preventing and treating mental health in children.
  • CARE, creating structures to share knowledge in the fights against HIV/TB/HCV.
  • BLACK SEA HORIZON, improving STI co-operation and dialogue between the EU and the Black Sea region through a joint programme.
