Flagship EBRD Green Cities initiative doubles in size


The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has doubled the existing €1.9 billion funding of its pioneering urban sustainability programme ‘EBRD Green Cities’. Over the next two years, a further €2 billion will be allocated to invest in green urban infrastructure.

In total, including €87 million from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and US$ 17.8 million from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF), more than €5 billion will be dedicated to supporting EBRD Green Cities.

The successful programme has already grown to include 52 cities, including two cities from Armenia, one from Azerbaijan, two from Georgia, two from Belarus, two from Moldova, and seven from Ukraine.

All participating cities embark on a trigger project to improve their local environment then, with EBRD help, work on a Green City Action Plan (GCAP) to create a tailor-made list of further environmental investments and policy actions most suitable to address their environmental challenges.
