European Union Prize for Literature – author from Armenia among laureates

On 9 November, the European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL) 2021 Award Ceremony honoured the 13 laureates of the current edition of the Prize. Armenian author Aram Pachyan is among the laureates.

The Prize has been recognising emerging fiction writers from across Europe since 2009. The competition is open to the 40 countries involved in the Creative Europe programme.

Aram Pachyan is a member of the independence generation in Armenia, who has won several national prizes, including the Presidential Prize for Literature. His first novel, Goodbye, Bird, became a national bestseller in 2012 and is still at the top of the bestsellers’ lists for Armenian literature. 

Pachyan’s winning book P/F is an experimental novel written in the style of Zen koans, stories or statements in Zen practice aiming at testing a student’s progress.
