EUAM presents survey results on community safety and security for Odesa region

On 24 November, the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Ukraine launched its Community Safety Dialogue (CSD) initiative.

The new long-term initiative, implemented in the Odesa region first, aims to reduce the rate of crime, increase citizens’ safety, trust in law enforcement agencies, and improve public order.

At the launch in the Odesa region, EUAM representatives also presented the results of their first extensive community safety and security regional survey.

The survey was carried out among 6,000 respondents and 12 focus groups in the capital Kyiv and five regions, including Odesa.

“The key finding of this comprehensive survey clearly points towards citizens’ lacking trust in the authorities and this is exactly what this ambitious CSD initiative aims to address,” said Into Goudsmit, EUAM Senior Adviser on Public Administration.

The survey shows that only 36% are satisfied with the police activities in the region.
