EU4Youth: raising awareness of the challenges facing youth and women’s empowerment in Armenia

On 8 March – International Women’s Day – a TEDx event was held around the topics of youth and women’s empowerment, supported by the EU4Youth – SAY YES Skills for Job project, implemented by World Vision Armenia.

Ten senior public figures (including the UN Resident Coordinator and a member of the National Assembly) and university students presented their stories of success, failures and achievements through the particular lenses of women and youth.

Among the participants, were around 20 members of SKYE clubs set up by EU4Youth, who travelled from the regions to take part in the event and learn from the experiences of others. The event was a good opportunity for these young people to learn and think about gender equality and women rights, topics that will be further discussed in the SKYE clubs.

SKYE (Skills and Knowledge for Youth Economic Empowerment) clubs give an opportunity to young people aged 16 to 25 to learn and take care of their community together. They are designed to run on an 18-month cycle, and provide practical and customised support for groups of 10 to 25 young people. The SKYE clubs in Armenia have been set up within the framework of the EU4Youth – SAY YES Skills for Jobs project, which is funded by the European Union and aims to contribute to jobs and self-employment among young women and men aged between 15 and 35 in Armenia and Georgia.
