EU joins Ukraine in paying tribute to Babyn Yar victims

On 6 October, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas participated in an official ceremony to mark the 80th anniversary of the Babyn Yar massacre, where tens of thousands Jewish people were killed during World War II.

“The legacy of this place remains a significant lesson of the past, which will never be forgotten. As a society that stands for mutual understanding and tolerance, we must do everything possible to ensure that nothing like that ever happens again. Remembrance about the atrocities at Babyn Yar is key to fighting prejudice and discrimination,” said Matti Maasikas.

On the same day, the EU adopted its first-ever Strategy aimed at combatting antisemitism and fostering Jewish life.
