EU, EBRD and Germany to support refurbishment of Georgian schools

Funding agreements worth €55.85 million were signed on 29 June in Tbilisi for a programme for the energy efficiency of public buildings in Georgia.

The main goal of the programme is the sustainable, holistic refurbishment of school buildings to improve energy efficiency and conditions for teachers and students. The project contributes to improving the energy efficiency system and meeting relevant EU directives by applying new energy efficiency standards in the renovation of a large number of public schools across the country.

The agreements will be mainly financed by Germany, while the EU will provide a €12.65 million grant.

The programme is part of the wider joint Team Europe initiative with the EBRD and the EU. Earlier this year, an EBRD loan of up to €40 million and a first EU grant of €13 million were initiated to help implement the programme.
