EU and World Health Organization donate ventilators and patient monitors to Moldova to fight COVID-19

A consignment of 34 ventilators for patients in need of assisted breathing and 41 patient monitors have been delivered to the Republic of Moldova by the European Union and the World Health Organization as part of the EU ‘Solidarity for Health’ initiative in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Eastern partner countries.

This package is one of the largest donations from the European Union and the WHO, with medical equipment worth about €1 million. It follows an earlier delivery of 356 oxygen concentrators and 210 pulse oximeters to provide uninterrupted and quality medical care for child and adult patients.

“The equipment delivered with the support of the EU and WHO partners through the ‘Solidarity for Health’ initiative is a concrete example of our support. In addition, a new initiative, with a total budget of €5.1 million, funded by the European Union and co-financed and implemented by the WHO, will soon begin to help the Republic of Moldova cope with current threats to public health,” said Magdalena Mueller-Uri, Head of the Operations Department of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova.

As of January 4 2021, more than 146,000 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the Republic of Moldova.
