Energy Community opens new office in Chisinau to better serve Moldova

The Energy Community is reinforcing its engagement in Moldova by opening an office in Chisinau, its Director Artur Lorkowski announced on 1 April.

The Chisinau office, financed under the EU4Energy project, is staffed by a full-time senior energy expert, who will support the Moldovan authorities in the drafting of legislation, providing professional advice and offering other day-to-day support, under the direction of the Energy Community Secretariat.

“The new office … confirms the Secretariat’s efforts to assist Moldova in modernising its energy sector and making it more secure and resilient to current and future challenges,” said Director Lorkowski. “It is important to keep the reform momentum going for the benefit of all Moldovan citizens.”

As one of the most vulnerable countries in Europe when it comes to energy security, Moldova needs assistance from the Energy Community in overcoming the mounting energy challenges and advancing on energy security and the decarbonisation agenda. This is critical for our economic, social and political stability,” Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița said.

She added that the establishment of the office will strengthen the country’s ability to cope with energy challenges recently deepened by the war in Ukraine and high energy prices.
