Azerbaijan-Armenia relations: virtual meeting between Michel, Macron, Aliyev and Pashinyan

On 4 February, European Council President Charles Michel, French President Emmanuel Macron, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met virtually.

Michel and Macron reaffirmed their full commitment to supporting efforts aimed at reducing tension and building trust in the region.

They took stock of progress achieved since the meetings held on the margins of the Eastern Partnership Summit in December, in particular the recent releases of detainees, ongoing joint efforts to search for missing persons, as well as the upcoming restoration of railway tracks.

The leaders agreed that the meeting had offered a valuable opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues.

“The EU and France remain committed to working with other partners, including the OSCE, to build a prosperous, safe and stable South Caucasus,” said a press release by the European Council.
